With the hype surrounding the commencement of MTV Roadies 9: Everything or Nothing; the timing of this post could not have been any better. In fact, it is only a few minutes before the pilot episode of season 9 is aired. Read on to know that one little tiny goof up on Raghu Ram’s part that promises to shake the very USP of MTV’s most successful franchise ever: REALITY!
Today, I was watching the Roadies 9 pre-launch docu-film featuring contestants from earlier seasons when a stray thought hit me. I somehow seemed to remember MTV Roadies 6 Palak or Gurmeet Kaur Johal from somewhere else as well. Suspicion turned to belief and I searched for the “Bhootani Ke” song from the Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif starrer, “Singh Is King”.
I then checked the years of release of the movie and Palak’s Bangalore auditions in MTV Roadies 6. As it turns out, the movie was released on August 4, 2008 while the Bangalore auditions for MTV Roadies 6 were first aired on 13th December, 2008. Taking the liberty of assuming the respective chronological differences in the sequences being shot and actually being aired, I could easily deduce that the same should be considerably higher in case of the movie.
IN PLAIN LOGIC, THERE IS NO EFFFIN’ WAY THAT THE ROADIES 6 BANGALORE AUDITIONS WERE SHOT BEFORE THE SONG “BHOOTANI KE”WAS.
What do we further infer?
Oh, just that Palak, a.k.a Gurmeet Kaur Johal, was a paid, small time struggling actress whose audition was completely scripted and fake; as is often the case with all major reality shows. After completing her well-scripted and not-so-surprisingly dramatic stay in the show, Palak went on to feature in Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao, the desi version of international reality show, I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here. Known for her on-camera histrionics, Palak is believed to have been asked by Raghu Ram to act “bitchy”, as revealed by her in an interview with India Times.
To further press upon my point, here's another video of Palak featured in a Punjabi pop video that appears to have been shot the first time Palak actually hit puberty.
You must understand that I have especially taken Raghu Ram’s case here just because he claims to be one tough nut running his show with utmost honestly. And still, to employ cheap stunts such as hiring bimbettes such as Gurmeet or Palak or whatever other names she goes by; is sheer blasphemy, if anything, on part of a man who claims to be the pioneer of reality television in India.
I’d also like to share another interesting observation with everyone. Since, I've been involved with the Internet Marketing industry since long, I understand Search Engine Optimisation or online promotion of a website pretty well. The Roadies Web Marketing Team, and I’m sure there is one, has been engaging in Black Hat, or unethical internet marketing practices to hide facts from the masses. Wikipedia, the only credible source of information, has a page that has been created by the show’s then creative head, Biraj B Choudhury, popularly known as Bumpy, who probably left the show before the eighth instalment of the show, MTV Roadies 8.0: Hell Down Under.
In support of the argument I have made in the lines above, I’ve hereby attached a screenshot of various relevant keywords that Google throws at you when you are seeking info about MTV Roadies. Notice that the competition for each keyword is LOW! Any guesses why?
So has the Roadies Team played it really smart? Yessir!
Will the said ‘smart-ass’ness still work? Unfortunately, still yes!
Grow up people! It’s high time you stopped taking whatever crap is thrown at you with “REALITY” labelled on it.
Raghu, Rajiv... Answers anyone? ;-)
Cheerios!
